The Effects Racking Project UPDATE! I'm starting over. Ug, this is a pain in the ass! I just got in a bunch of Lava Cable and Neutrik connectors, and I ordered an Axess Electronics FX1 because the Ground Control Pro just doesn't have enough of the features I need - most notably it's limited to 8 instant access switches with no expandability. I'll leave the old info up for now, but I'm going to gut the rack and start from scratch. I now know MUCH more about what I need and want from this system, and the final result should be killer! ----------------------------------- Well, I've considered doing this for a number of years but could never get myself to take the leap. I've got a monstrous pedal board, some miscellaneous rack gear, many amps, etc. etc. and its just gotten out of control. So, I finally took the plunge and bought the Ground Control Pro and a couple of GCX rack switchers and I'm in the process of racking all of my guitar effects. This project is tough, and I've nearly fallen into a weeping mass on the studio floor many times now! I plan to document the project when it's done, but until then, here are some pics for your amusement. I'm about half way done - or so I hope! The first picture below is the current state of the front of the rack. Sitting on top is my Echoplex EP-3. In the rack (starting from the top) is a Furman power conditioner/light module, then comes the Boss SE-70 and corresponding EQ which I use for a shimmering effect (they are not in the main guitar signal path). Next up is the almighty TC Electronic 2290 delay; this is one bad boy! I got it shortly before starting this rack project, so I haven't had as much time to play with it as I would like. Below that is an empty space where my TC Electronic M-One XL will go (due next week). Then comes two pedal trays (I'm still putting my pedals onto the trays) and below those are the two GCX switching units. ![]() This next picture gives you a glimpse into my own personal hell! Notice that in this picture I haven't even begun to wire up one of the GCXs! I'm running all of the power down the left side of the rack and all of the audio cables down the right side. When everything is in place (and working), I will wire-tie everything all nice and tidy. I'm custom wiring it all and soldering my own patch cables, so that takes some time. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about the power situation as there are way too many cords to deal with, but I'm saving that issue for later. ![]() |
